José Viramontes

CEO

José Viramontes is the CEO of MediaDesk. He came to MediaDesk following a career in the public sector where he led communications, policy and strategic planning for natural resource conservation efforts in the western US. He is a graduate of the University of New Mexico with degrees in Communications and Political Science. José is passionate about community service and has extensive leadership experience in the local nonprofit sector.

Sommer Smith

Co-founder, Creative Director

Sommer Smith is the Co-founder and Creative Director at MediaDesk. She is deeply drawn to crafting and mobilizing stories that have the possibility to contribute to social change. As a writer, musician and poet she is dedicated to not just telling stories, but to capturing them, spreading them, and allowing them to transform us inside and out.

Emily Hill

Communications Strategist

Emily is a marketer, journalist and  digital storyteller. As a Communications Associate at MediaDesk, she specializes in clever copywriting and creative marketing strategy. Recently, she spent a year as a travel journalist in New Zealand and a hiking guide across the Four Corners region in the southwestern United States. Emily is also a biking activist, conservationist, and outdoor educator.



Jason Griffin

Director of Web Services

Jason Griffin is the Director of Web Services at MediaDesk. With over 20 years of experience in IT he is passionate about technology and creating intuitive, attractive, genuinely useful sites that ensure our clients succeed at powering positive change. He's a headphone audiophile, coffee geek, opera lover, cinephile, Formula 1 fan, and scotch enthusiast. Jason loves New Mexico - a job moved him here in 2004 and when it attempted to move him back in 2015 he said, "big nope."

Olivia Faust

Associate Creative Director

Olivia found herself in a strategy session with the team several years ago and decided that the MediaDeskers were her kind of people. As the Associate Creative Director, she balances heartfelt communications, data-driven tactics, and client goals to elevate and mobilize causes that make a difference. She firmly believes that on-the-ground efforts can save the world, or, at the very least, improve the lives of fellow New Mexicans.

Fernando Gaverd

Graphic Designer

Fernando Gaverd is a Mexican graphic designer born in La Paz, a beach town in the peninsula of La Baja. He has been involved in projects with Television Academy, Paramount, OPI and REBBL among other collaborations with artists.

MediaDesk was founded in 2013 to support New Mexico’s nonprofits. Our founders knew that the organizations that are strongest, fastest and make the most difference are highly connected with their communities. That connectedness doesn’t happen on its own; an essential part of building -- and sustaining -- connections is telling stories, and telling them well.

Since 2013 our clients have ranged from small, community-based nonprofits to large national foundations. While our work takes us all over, we remain headquartered in the downtown of our home city, Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Sommer Smith co-founded the agency and continues to serve as our creative director. The company is now spearheaded by chief executive officer José Viramontes.
